Ever wondered how your jewellery is made ?, well we decided to put together a whole page just to show you how we as Romancing The Stone, Goldsmiths and Jewellers do this task.

We decided to breakdown the jewellery process into four steps namely; Quote and Rough Design, Computer Design,Wax Cutting and Final Product.


STEP ONE : QUOTE AND ROUGH DESIGN


  We need : Information
 


a) What You Have :

For example - stones, gold, jewellery idea or design, ring size and as many specifications that you can supply even a hand drawing is welcome.

Now that we have collected the information, it is design time. We use a 3D graphics design program which has a vast variety of functions we use to complete the jewellery design(s), with functions consisting of 1:1 scaling with a realistic gemstone and final product.
 
After a 3D design has been created, a rendered picture is then printed or e-mailed to the customer, so that they may view the product before the wax mould is cut.

Once the customer has given the go-ahead we then move onto the cutting process where the wax mould is cut to the specifications of the 3D design.


STEP TWO : COMPUTER DESIGN


The state of the art wax cutting CNC machine, which we use to cut the wax mould consisting of a small wax block or tube is then placed into the machines' clamps and the design computer is set to send the data to it. One single wax block takes approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours to cut depending on the detail, at which the drill bit is spinning at a speed between 10000rpm - 20000rpm.
  
 
 


STEP THREE : WAX CUTTING


We use a heat resistant wax, imported from the USA. After we have processed your wax mould it's time for the revealing process; You now get to fit the ring with your final stamp of approval, if any adjustments are to be made we can do it to that wax mould before it is taken to the manufacturing department. Romancing the Stones' skills are now put into action to create your item from the wax mould, to precious metal, setting of gemstone and finalising !
 
 


STEP FOUR : FINAL PRODUCT


Here is the part you have been waiting for - The completed jewellery item!, A dream that you have put to paper, then to a 3D model. Excitement filled the air and a few days later we call you telling you that your completed jewellery item is ready for collection.
